There are three words to describe what this weekend feels like for the high school wrestlers determined enough to win a spot in the GHSA traditional wrestling state meet.
Their coaches sense it, too.
“Hold your breath,” said Doug Thurmond.
Thurmond coaches the Jefferson High School team, which will attempt to capture the program’s 13th-consecutive traditional team championship when the event starts Friday and continues Saturday at the Macon Centreplex.
Joining JHS' 12 wrestlers will be four from Jackson County Comprehensive High School and one from East Jackson Comprehensive High School.
The meet starts Friday, with quarterfinals scheduled at 5 p.m. and semifinals starting at 7 p.m. Wrestling action continues Saturday with quarterfinals at 11 a.m. and finals scheduled for 3 p.m.
