Time limited for discount tie-in to Hwy. 29 water line extension

Madison County Industrial Development and Building Authority utility director Steve Shaw says folks who want to tie on to the Hwy. 29 North water line extension currently under construction should come to the office to apply for service before the construction reaches their residence.

Shaw said a $650 discount is being offered to water customers who sign up to tie on to the water system as it is being installed.

“Once the line is complete by your house, the discount won’t apply,” Shaw said.

Shaw said the extension has been completed from where it started on Hwy. 98 West and then down Irvin Kirk Road. He said the industrial authority has picked up about 30 customers so far in this area. Trenching began Monday on Hwy. 29 North at Irvin Kirk toward Wildcat Bridge Road (Hwy. 281). Lines will be laid all the way to the Franklin County line at the Hudson River bridge.

Shaw said construction to lay water lines under the river has been completed already.

He said the project should be finished before June, adding that construction has been slowed by the recent rainfall.

The county water system currently has nearly 900 customers, with 587 of those located in the Hull area alone. Shaw said a significant number of customers were added in the last quarter of 2012 due to private wells running dry.

“That has slacked off since all the rain,” he said.

Construction for the new Dill’s grocery store that is slated to open this year on Hwy. 72 has not yet started. Shaw said the last word they had on it is that the company was waiting for the completion of permits to begin grading.
