Two people were arrested Monday night on drug charges by the Banks County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office was conducting a drug operation at a controlled area of Banks County at 10:30 p.m. Monday when the arrests were made. After the drug buy was completed and the BCSO units attempted to arrest the offenders, one of them drove his vehicle into another vehicle and fled south on U.S. Highway 441.
The two offenders were identified as Travavious Jantrell Umble, 23, 2939 Liberty Church Road, Hartwell, and Meljentavious Lyn’juan Martin, 22, 44 Ware Street, Hartwell.
A BCSO unit pursued Umble and Martin into the city limits of Commerce at which time Umble stopped his vehicle and Umble and Martin were taken into custody.
Just south of Walmart on the edge of Hwy. 441, BCSO units located a glass Mason jar containing a large amount of marijuana that had been thrown from the pursued vehicle.
Both Umble and Martin were charged with attempt or conspiracy to violate the Georgia Controlled Substance Laws and abandonment of certain dangerous drugs, poisons and controlled substance. Umble was also charged with additional traffic charges pertaining to the fleeing and attempting to elude.
