On an overcast Saturday with a freezing wind chill, several members of the East Jackson track and field squad earned top-10 finishes in their respective events at the Eagle Invitational.
“We had some very good performances in some not-so-hot weather conditions,” said Eagle head coach Tomy Sitton.
Robin Adair led the Eagles with a first-place leap of four feet, 10 inches in the high jump, while Tyreke Shelton broke the long jump record at East Jackson with a jump of 20 feet, 10 inches to earn first place.
The Eagles also received a standout performance from Tyree Rakestraw, who placed second in the triple jump (43’ 3”) earning the leading jump among all division AAA schools. Rakestraw also placed second in the long jump (20’ 3”).
The Eagles also had success with the relay events, placing third in the 400m relay (46.06) and the 4x200m relay (2:00.69).
East Jackson finished the event in fifth place out of the 11 schools that participated.
“We have some events we excelled in, but at the same time we have some work to do in other events,” added Sitton. “I feel we did well, considering the conditions, and now have an idea of where we stand as a team.”
The Eagles will host Apalachee High School this Thursday, March 7, at 4:15 p.m.
