JEFFERSON - Betty "Jane" Duke Segars, 81, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013.
She was born in Jefferson, the daughter of the late Dave and Lollie Lyle Duke. She was a graduate of Martin Institute in Jefferson. After graduation, she worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington D.C.
She married Charles Segars from Arcade and they spent the next 30 years as a military couple. They retired from military service and returned to Jefferson, where Mrs. Segars was the owner of Jane's Flower Shop in the Arcade area of Jackson County. She was a member of the Jefferson First United Methodist Church, a member of the Woman's Club of Jefferson, and a member of the Jefferson Garden Club.
Mrs. Segars was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Charles Henry Segars; brothers, Nay, David, and Bill; and sisters, Lillian, Louise and Mildred.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sandi and Ronnie Williamson, Braselton; son and daughter-in-law, John Segars and Donna Gessell, Jefferson; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Dot Duke, Jefferson; and grandchildren, Tyler Williamson and Amanda Frye.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday March 20, at the Jefferson First United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Chris Laskey and Minster Tom Plank officiating. Interment will follow at the Redstone Methodist Church Cemetery. Those honored as pallbearers will be Doug Duke, Dave Duke, Gary McCroskey, Tony Duke, Billy Duke and Andy Garrison. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday March 19, from 6 until 8 p.m.
