Winder police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man suspected of stealing ladies' wallets at three businesses on Tuesday, March 19. The thefts occurred from noon-4 p.m.
According to a Winder Police Department press release, the victims suspect a heavyset, middle-aged black man who claimed to have been sent to their businesses by building owners to perform services such as carpet cleaning and pest control. Saying he needed to inspect office areas, he was left alone, and the women discovered their wallets missing from purses and desks shortly after the man left.
The suspect was wearing gold-rimmed glasses. Police believe he may have committed similar thefts this past weekend in Clarke and Oconee counties. He might be driving a late 1980s-early 1990s model, four-door Buick car that is light blue or gray. Anyone who could help identity the suspect is asked to contact WPD detective Rikki Banks at 770-867-2156.
