DONALDS, S.C. - Effie Gooch Dorn Callaway, 78, widow of James E. Callaway, died Monday, March 18, 2013, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Oglethorpe County, she was the daughter of the late Verlin and Flury Helton Gooch. She was retired from Greenwood Mills, where she was a member of the Quarter Century Club, and was a former member of First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Mrs. Callaway was preceded in death by four sisters; and two brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Ann McLaughlin (Paul); son, Michael Anthony Dorn (Beverly Ann); stepson, Jimmy Callaway; and brother, Joe Gooch, all of Greenwood; friend and former spouse, Leonard Dorn, Jr.; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Terry Ray officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Lund, Dean McLaughlin, Timothy Brooks, Joseph Brooks, Eric Hassler, Trai Kerr, Jay Gravley and Randy Smallwood. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, March 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. The family is at the home.
