The Commerce girls’ tennis team earned two wins last week, while the boys’ team went 1-1.
On Tuesday, March 12, the Lady Tigers defeated region opponent Tallulah Falls, 4-1.
Junior Kaylee Partin (8-5) and senior Abby Harold (8-2) earned victories in the no. 2 and no. 3 singles matches.
The No. 1 doubles pair of McClaine Martin and Hannah Davis defeated their opponents 8-2, while the no. 2 pair of Katherine Sanders and Madi Lumpkin won 8-2.
Last Wednesday, the girls swept East Jackson 5-0.
Madison Maddox (8-4), Kaylee Partin (8-5) and Abby Harold (8-5) all notched singles wins, while the duos of Martin and Davis, and Sanders and Lumpkin both came away with 8-4 wins, putting the Lady Tigers at 2-1 on the year.
“I am very proud of how the girls have played and the progress we have made already,” said coach John Allen. “We are playing with confidence and I believe that we are just going to continue to get better.”
Last week, the boys’ team fell to Tallulah Falls 0-5. The following day, the Tigers edged East Jackson 3-2.
The Tigers added wins from no. 1 singles player Dillion Haggard (8-6) and no. 2 singles player Jonathan Nichols (8-0). The no. 2 doubles duo of Baron Mather and Cody Weaver clinched the match after an 8-4 victory.
“We are competing well and playing hard and we are starting to see some results,” added Allen.
Friday, the Tigers will travel to Lakeview Academy for a match with the Lions at 4 p.m.
