COMMERCE - S.A. Long, 91, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Northridge Medical Center in Commerce.
He was born on June 11, 1921, the son of the late Samuel H. and Ellen Branyon Long. He was married to the late Sarah Tiller Long for 61 years. Mr. Long was the last surviving member of his family. He was preceded in death by four brothers and seven sisters. Mr. Long was retired from Roper Pump Company, was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, and loved Georgia football. He watched all of the games. He served in the United States Army in World War II from 1942-1945 and was involved in the Battle of The Bulge with the 83rd Infantry Division. He performed duties in Canada, England, Scotland, Wales, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, and Czechoslovakia. He was a wonderful uncle and was loved so much, loved ones stated.
Survivors include a niece and nephew, Irene and Buddy Sexton (also his caregivers); several other nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Lyles officiating. Burial will follow in the Ila Cemetery in Ila. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour Thursday morning. The family is at their respective homes.
