Hoschton may have a new world record on its hands, according to an organizer of the Scarecrow Stampede. The city was vying for a Guinness World Record for the “Most Scarecrows in One Location.” Hoschton was aiming for 4,000 scarecrows by Monday, Sept. 1. But on Friday afternoon, organizers realized they had hit the mark — and surpassed its goal.

Cool place to live!
that would help people, this is just plain stupid!
They could be making something for old folks or the
needy, come on who the heck thought of something this
stupid??? This is our local government? and your proud
of these idiots? you must be one of them, geez!
I don't live in Hoschton, but I was at the press conference when the organizers announced this. The point was to bring together a community for a common goal and also bring attention to the City of Hoschton, which it obviously has done. More than 4,000 scarecrows were made, which means hundreds - or even thousands - of locals pulled together to make something happen. This will create a stronger bond in Hoschton amongst long-timers and new-comers, and the national attention it is drawing will put Hoschton "on the map" as a tourist attraction, bringing more people and more money to the city's economy.
All in all, it was a very smart move by a few local folks with the best interest of their hometown in mind.
Regards,
Josh Barnett
That'd be an awesome start!
Meanwhile, we'll be bringing our community together for something fun and interesting. You do let us know when you're ready to lead, mkay?
know your from you're, we are just plain redneck folks,
you must be real proud of your spelling and scarecrows.
I agree with the couple of folks here it was a waste of
time and energy who cares if this place puts us on the
map what difference does it make? This is also a STUPID
remark I don't know if you know it but if you look on the
map you will see Hoschton on there. LOL
You say lead the way how do you know these people aren't
doing their fair share with the needy? I don't get it
about some people thinking it's a grand thing that people
knows where Hoschton is, JJ
Hoschton is making a name for itself with a unique event, and, in doing so, will be thought of as something other than Atlanta's next suburb.
As for the economics, drawing in tourists and their money only brings good things to town, like more contributions to food banks, etc.
That's exactly the way its worked in dozens of small towns and communities all over the United States and Canada.
"former City of Hoschton".
I was making scarecrows to beat the world record. I also help the needy and make something for old folks. This was a wonderful idea and Robbie Bettis should be very proud of herself. The other day, I was asked where I lived and told them Hoschton, they knew about the town from reading it in the newspapers. It has been a pleasure to make the scarecrows and a HUGE success. Maybe you should feel "stupid" for writing your comment. The goverment had nothing to do with it.
P.S. You've got to try the Mayfield ice cream and lunches @ "Little Hooties" next to Hoschton City Hall. It's great! Be sure to introduce yourself to the local owners, Kathy and Stanley. They're nice people.

pass through Hoschton all the time going to Dawsonville.
Finding a place to eat and especially ice cream is great.
I have emailed lots of pictures of your scarecrows I took
while passing through. I cannot believe you have local
residents that would put the town project down.
As a lifelong resident of this town, I have to say I haven't had this much fun with my family building ours, for a long time. It sparked a lot of good conversations and creativity.
Viva La Hoschton!
From Winder, Ga
I drive through the town every weekday and it looks a little 'Children of the corn' -ish and down-right spooky in certain areas, but it's also neat that people here come together like this.
All of you yankees and transplants that don't like it, to coin a lyric, 'A Southern man don't need you around anyhow'. So either shut up or leave and don't come back!
have a wonderful day!!!!!!!!
Maybe you folks who are so worried about the homeless and the needy should be out helping them instead of spending valuable time typing blogs accusing others of not being charitable and benevolent.
Maybe you need to get-to!
I didn't get there until dark, but I took lots of pictures
anyway. If you saw some lunatic out there on a Friday
night taking pictures, it was me. Bravo, small town! I'm
so proud of you guys. Don't let anyone tell you it was
worthless--that you should have been putting your time into
more important endeavors. You pulled together, and it
didn't take a natural disaster for you to do it! I am so
proud to be from Jackson County!

Great job Hoschton, keep up the great work! (Can't wait to see it in Southern Living!!!)
a bunch of losers! Doesn't these people in Hoschton
have a life? Can't wait till see what these loser's
think up next, maybe how to get more tax money!
The scarecrows have brought people to Hoschton. These people stopped at the local antique stores, curb stores, gas stations, and restaurants. All of these have to pay tax on the goods sold. In addition, some of them might actually think of moving to Hoschton.
It seems to me, the scarecrows were (are) a GREAT WAY of attracting people to Hoschton.
Hopefully, the majority of the people haven't bumped into you or others with the same mentality.
Learn how to write!
"Doesn't these people in Hoschton have a life?"
Who's dumb now!
What is wrong with you naysayers? Really this didn't hurt anyone and made many come visit us. I'll bet the ones making fun and nasty remarks about this and Hoschton's people lead very lonely, bitter lives. Try having some fun people, you'd be surprised how much better you feel about life !
Congrats on a great turn out and I think you should do it every year.
What better way to bring your community together and have a little old fashion fun!
You could just move to a town that guarantees to never display anything that offends you (I suggest you have a place in a home owner's association somewhere. You can carry a ruler around and measure your neighbor's grass for "violations".)
you're welcome!
on in Hoschton is scary. It rates right up there with Witch Craft. It is very embarassing to pass through the town and see that mess. It makes the town look nasty. Caitlyn
