Three seniors and a junior will help lead the Apalachee High School cross country boys this fall.
Seniors Nick Zvirbulis, Erick Dotson and Jacob Stanley, along with junior Chander Campell, will see where they stand early this season when they compete in the Northeast Georgia Championship Saturday in Athens.
Coach Alex Holmes said he is eager to see how junior Francisco Dominguez and freshmen Jackson Wadsworth, Prestin Marlowe and Juan Morales contribute at the varsity level.
For the AHS Lady Wildcats, the girls top runners are sophomore Analee Bradach, senior Kim Zahm and sophomore Christi Tobiasz.
“We lost our No. 1, 2, 3, and 5 runners from last year,” Holmes said. “We had two to transfers and two who decided not to run. Three of them were sophomores and one of them a junior. We only have seven girls in the program.”
The competition in Athens will be tough, but it will also be a good measuring stick for the AHS runners.
“I would like to see both the boys and girls teams give it everything they’ve got for the first meet,” Holmes said. “I would like to see the boys finish in the top three of their race. I’d also like to see how both teams stack up against the region teams that will be at the meet.”
Saturday’s event is one of the largest early season meets in the area.
