A program on underage drinking will be given at area high schools in September.
Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office are presenting Shane Godfrey with X-Tream Videos.
“This will be a presentation for our high school students regarding underage drinking/drugs and the related consequences,” Sheriff Mangum said.
Sheriff Mangum is continuing the effort to educate youth and help prevent tragedies, such as alcohol and drug addiction and the horrible results, such as traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities and sexual activities leading to teenage pregnancies and related issues.
The schedule is as follows:
•Wednesday, Sept. 11, 8:30 a.m., Jefferson High School for back to back assemblies with each lasting 45 minutes to an hour.
•Wednesday, Sept. 11, 12:30 p.m., Jackson County Comprehensive High School for back to back assemblies with each lasting 45 minutes to an hour.
•Thursday, Sept. 12, 8:30 a.m., Commerce High School for one assembly lasting 45 minutes to an hour.
•Thursday, Sept. 12, at 10:30 a.m., East Jackson Comprehensive High School for first assembly and back for second assembly at 1 p.m. with each lasting 45 minutes to an hour.
These presentations will be of no cost to the schools. Sheriff Mangum will pay for the program with drug-seized money through the sheriff’s office.
“If we can touch the life of one child, it will be well worth the cost,” Sheriff Mangum said.
