Jefferson Mayor Jim Joiner has announced that he will not be seeking re-election. His term ends Dec. 31.
Joiner has served as mayor for 12 years and, prior to that, as a member of the city council for two years.
“I’ve decided to retire after 14 years of serving the City of Jefferson,” Joiner said Tuesday.
Among the accomplishments made over the past 14 years that he cites are: going to a city manager form of government; building a civic center; financial improvements (going from borrowing money to having reserves at the end of the year); the streetscape program in downtown; and the staff that is in place.
