Early Sunday, thieves crashed a truck into the front of Southeast Pawn, 138 West Athens St., and made off with at least 20 guns and ammo. Most were handguns of various calibers, but four long guns, including a Bushmaster semi-automatic rifle, also were stolen. The weapons are worth about $16,000.
According to a Winder Police Department press release, a store video shows a single suspect walking up to the front window of the business at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, and looking inside. A moment later, a white Dodge Ram pickup drove through the front window, and three suspects ran inside and grabbed weapons. The Dodge truck was left at the scene by the suspects. It was stolen sometime Saturday night from an Atlanta apartment complex. The burglary suspects are believed to have fled the Winder store in a second vehicle. Pawn shop personnel are checking the store's inventory for any additional items that may have been taken. The Winder Police Department is actively investigating this incident.
