When qualifying ended this (Wednesday) afternoon for the Nov. 5 Commerce elections, three new faces had qualified for office — all for school board positions.
Here are the candidates for election:
Mayor pro tem — Keith Burchett, incumbent
Ward 1 city council — Archie D. Chaney Jr., incumbent
Ward 2 city council — Darren Owensby, incumbent; and Donald Wilson
School board District 1 — Nathan Anderson and Kevin E. Tate
School board District 2 — Kyle Moore, incumbent.
Anderson, Tate and Moore are all newcomers to the political scene. Although Moore is the incumbent for the District 2 school board post, he's held the position for less than a month aafter being appointed by the board to fill the unexpired term of longtime District 2 member Mary Seabolt, who resigned.
