COMMERCE - Samuel "Tumpy" Evans, 99, died Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Athens Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Franklin County, the son of the late Claude and Renie Hart Evans. He was a United States Army veteran and was retired from Harmony Grove Mills. Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Bray Evans.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Jerry Lewallen, Commerce; brother, Stewart Evans, Commerce; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Amanda and Brian Wilson, Commerce, and Melanie and Chris Giddens, Silver Creek; great-grandchildren, Katlin and Mitchell Wilson, both of Commerce, and Jake Giddens, Silver Creek.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 10, at the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home with the Rev. Chad Payne officiating. Interment will follow in Grey Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, September 9, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, is in charge of arrangements.
