It’s time for funnel cakes, the ferris wheel and cow shows.
The annual Madison County Agricultural Fair will be held Sept. 24 to 28 at the Comer Fairgrounds on Hwy. 22.
The fair will open nightly at 6 p.m., with a matinee set for noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 28. The James Gang will offer unlimited rides for $15 Tuesday, Thursday and during the Saturday matinee and for $18 for Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights. Gate prices are $4 for ages 6 and under. Children under 5 are admitted free. Admission is $1 for the Saturday matinee, with free admission for children 15 and under.
Prizes will be given away nightly — you must be present to win. Fair goers should deposit their gate ticket in the barrel under the shelter to participate in the drawings. Drawings will be held nightly and at 4 p.m. during the Saturday matinee.
The fair will include a swine show Tuesday night at 7 p.m., a goat show Wednesday at 7 p.m., and cattle shows Thursday at 7 p.m., Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at noon.
Fifty cents off admission will be offered for each pair of useable eyeglasses, hearing aids or cell phones donated to the Comer Lions Club.
The fair will include rides, shows, games, exhibits of handmade arts and crafts, community club promotional exhibits, commercial business, agriculture equipment, vendors with various wares, a variety of foods and more. Parking is free.
There will be nightly entertainment at the grandstand.
Here is a schedule of grandstand entertainment:
•Tuesday, Sept. 24: “The Songsters,” Southern gospel music, and “The Lewis Tradition,” legendary bluegrass gospel music. The show starts at 7 p.m. The gate prize will be drawn at 10 p.m. for lawn canopy and outdoor furniture.
•Wednesday, Sept. 25: “Holman Autry Band,” Southern rock and country. The show starts at 7 p.m. The gate prize will be drawn at 10 p.m. for a weed eater and leaf blower.
•Thursday, Sept. 26: “The Nothin’ Nu Band,” 50s, 60s and 70s music. The show starts at 7 p.m. The gate prize will be drawn at 10:30 p.m. for an Apple iPad.
•Friday, Sept. 27: “Kenny and the Headbangers,” classic favorites from rock and roll to country. The show starts at 7 p.m. The gate prize will be drawn at 11 p.m. for a Maytag washer and dryer.
•Saturday, Sept. 28: Two special prize drawings for bicycles will be held at the matinee at 4 p.m. The gates will re-open at 6 p.m. Entertainment will start at 7 p.m. with “Sons of Sailors,” a Jimmy Buffet tribute band. The gate prize will be drawn at 11 p.m. for a flat screen TV with an entertainment center console.
