There’s still no word from the state on whether funding will be available for a water line from Elbert County to Madico Park in Comer.
Both Elbert and Madison County officials are seeking funds to run a line down Hwy. 72 from Elbert County to Madico Industrial Park at Hwy. 172 and Hwy. 98, a project that leaders hope will attract more industry to the county’s industrial areas.
Madison County Industrial Development and Building Authority Executive director Marvin White said Sept. 15 that the Governor’s water fund has roughly $45 million available for projects, but approximately $60 million in requests. He said the state has delayed decisions on water funding until at least October. And the county hasn’t gotten any indication whether the project will be approved.
In a 10-minute meeting Sept. 15, the IDA also heard from utility director Steve Shaw, who reported that 897 county customers used approximately six million gallons of water in August, which was up from July’s total.
Madison County commission chairman Anthony Dove also thanked the IDA for allowing engineer Phil Munro to do work for the county government. He said Munro has done work for the county, the cities and schools, allowing local governments to cut down on engineering costs.
“He (Munro) is a real asset to our county,” said Munro.
