A Comer man faces family violence charges after allegedly attacking his girlfriend in front of their two small children.
Douglas McAuther Gresham, 21, was charged with battery FVA and two counts of cruelty to children in the third degree.
Officer David Kidd went to Fowler Freeman Lane where he met with the victim, who said that the incident occurred on Christmas Circle. She said her live-in boyfriend (Gresham) who she has two children by, argued with her over her allegedly cheating on him.
She said that he became violent and grabbed her by her hair. He then allegedly took her to the floor and started dragging her face across the floor causing injury to her right cheek. She said that he then put her in a chokehold from behind and was choking her. Kidd took photos of her injuries. She said that both children were in the room with them during the assault. She said that when she got away from him that she fled to the back bedroom where she jumped through a window in order to get away from him. She then ran to a neighbor`s house to get to a phone and he followed her. She said she told him to get out of her car and let her leave. He did and she went to her mother`s house where she called E-911 and requested assistance. An ambulance was also dispatched to the scene. EMS checked her injuries. She signed a refusal and was not transported. Sgt. Klint Segars and officer Kidd went to Christmas Circle where they made contact with Gresham. He told them that he did not put his hands on her but instead said that she freaked out and became violent towards him ending with her jumping through a closed window and going to the neighbor`s house. He said that he followed her there. Once there, he gave her the car and she left. Kidd placed Gresham under arrest and transported him to the Madison County Jail.
