under way for
Early voting in all Jackson County municipal elections is under-way through Nov. 1 at the Jackson County Administrative Building in Jefferson.
In addition, early voting will take place at the Commerce Recreation Department office on Carson Street the week of Oct. 28-Nov. 1.
Hours are 8-5 each day.
A previous report that early voting would be available one Saturday was incorrect.
Ballots for all municipal elections in Jackson County will be available at both sites.
That means someone registered to vote in Arcade or Braselton elections can vote early those elections at the Commerce and Jefferson locations. But that changes on election day.
“On election day, you have to vote in your city,” advises Lori Wurtz, Jackson County election supervisor.
Only 1 Polling Place In Commerce
For the first time, Jackson County will conduct most of the municipal elections, and in Commerce there will be just one polling place instead of the usual North Minish and South Minish precincts.
All voting Nov. 5 will take place at the Commerce Recreation Department building, 204 Carson Street.
There are two races on the Commerce ballot: the Ward 2 city council race between incumbent Darren Owensby and challenger Donald Wilson; and the District 1 school board race between political newcomers Nathan Anderson and Kevin E. Tate. While only District 1 and Ward 2 will have contested races, the candidates running unopposed for the offices of mayor pro tem (Keith Burchett) and Ward 1 councilman (Archie Chaney) will also be on the ballot. The mayor pro tem position is filled by at-large voting.
