A total of 53 teams were set to compete in the Winder-Barrow High School competition cheerleading event Saturday. In the end, four teams did not take the floor due to injuries.
The Winder-Barrow Middle School squad won first in the co-ed division edging out East Jackson 166-144.
The WBHS junior varsity squad was also first in the co-ed dsivision with 176 points. Second place Monroe Area totaled 94.
The WBHS varsity Cheer Doggs had a score of 236, but did not compete in the standings since they were the host.
Chestatee High School earned 236 points in the varsity competition followed by Archer with 230.
Even with a five-point deduction for stepping out of bounds, WBHS had 236 points. Apalachee High School also competed Saturday at the WBHS event.
“We had a brand new dance and new music,” said coach Jerrie Hulsey. “There were no mistakes in the dance. We had a stunt come down early in the co-eds, but other than that, it was a very good day.”
All three WBHS teams are preparing for a trip to Dacula High School Saturday.
This is the final weekend of the regular season before competition cheer teams take part in region and state.
WBHS also recognized its 12 seniors Saturday. Members of the Cheer Doggs Class of 2014 include Collin Cooper, Britney Crosby, Kolby Estes, Jared Glazier, Whitney Gunter, Charlee Horne, Aaron Jeswald, Rubiel Lopez, Ben Oxley, Kendavious Ope, Jonathon Pope and Carlos Dawkins.
