After a four-year tenure marked both by improvements in student achievement and criticism of her personal management style, it appears that Barrow County school superintendent Wanda Creel is moving on. The Gainesville City School Board of Education announced Friday that she is its choice for superintendent. Following contract negotiations, the appointment will be official Jan. 6.
However, Creel won’t make the move immediately. Gainesville superintendent Merrianne Dyer is retiring around the end of this school year and the transition will take place before then.
A Gainesville BOE member also said Creel wants to remain in place to guide Barrow’s budget for next year.
