The search process to find the next superintendent of the Banks County School System is moving forward.
At a work session on December 18, the board of education received an update on the search to date and planned numerous details of the search, including interview procedures and methods for securing community and employee input. Frank King and Sandy Addis, who are assisting with the search process, met with the board to review activities during the early phase of the search and to facilitate planning for the next steps.
Also at the December 18 work session, King and Addis provided information on discussions with and questions posed by prospective applicants who have contacted them for additional information about the vacancy. A significant number of applications are expected to be received by the application deadline of January 24.
The board will be seeking input from community members, students, parents, and employees as they screen applicants and select the next superintendent. In early January, an electronic survey will be posted on the school system website that will allow any citizen to provide input to the search process. The survey may be completed by visiting the school system web site at www.banks.k12.ga.us.
Also, in early January, an electronic survey will be sent to all school system employees requesting opinions as to the most important qualifications of the next superintendent. Paper copies of the surveys will be available to the public at the board administrative office and in the front office of each school. Survey results will be compiled at the end of January and will be reviewed by the board prior to selection of applicants for interviews.
During the month of February, the board anticipates reviewing all applications received and hopes to conduct the first round of interviews in late February or early March. Before a new superintendent is selected, the board will conduct a second round of interviews with some applicants and seek in-depth reference information. The Board hopes to conclude the search process by late March or early April.
