A Holocaust survivor will speak to two Jackson County middle schools on Friday, Feb. 7.
Elane Geller, who lives in Sherman Oaks, Calif., will talk to the entire student bodies of East Jackson Middle School and West Jackson Middle School about her experiences as a child in Nazi concentration camps in Poland during World War II. Geller is considered one of the youngest known Holocaust survivors. She was four years old when her father snuck her into Birkenau, the second camp of Auschwitz, under some tarp, according to WJMS assistant principal Stephen Greene, who organized her visit. The Nazis had killed her mother and grandparents because they were considered too sick, he said.
