It wasn’t easy, but then again it usually isn’t on the road in Region 8-AAAAA.
In the end, however, the Apalachee High School boys basketball team held on for a 74-70 road win Monday at Salem. It was the seventh consecutive win for the Wildats (20-3, 11-3) since a home loss to Clarke Central Jan. 14.
Monday’s game was a physical contest despite only 20 total fouls being called the entire night. Kamar Baldwin scored 23 points for AHS with 14 rebounds and five assists.
Kent Knowles finished with 20 points, seven boards and five assists.
Leading 70-61 with 1:09 to play, AHS saw Salem make three consecutive long-range 3-pointers. In the end, the Wildcats managed to take a four-point win.
Wright Patterson was credited with being a key in the win for AHS. Patterson scored five points, but also had two blocks, six rebounds, five steals and eight deflections.
Joey German finished with nine points and Alantae Billings played well down the stretch, scoring five of his seven points in the fourth quarter.
The Wildcats will close out the regular season Friday with senior night against Heritage at 8:30 p.m.
The AHS Lady Wildcats fell 63-19 to Salem Monday. Kiara Hooks and Tia Carter both had seven points each to pace AHS in the road region game.
