Thomas Hartwell Blackstock, 79, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2014.
Mr. Blackstock lived in Jefferson for his entire life. He was the son of the late Thomas Bascom Blackstock and Rena Hooper Blackstock. Mr. Blackstock was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson and graduated from Southern Tech with an Associates Degree in Electronics. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years, retiring as a supervisor. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Luke Vandiver.
Mr. Blackstock, also known as Pop Pop, was a proud father of four children and grandfather of ten grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Gilbert Blackstock; son, Tom and his wife, Kristin, and granddaughter, Elizabeth; daughter, L'Resu and her husband, Philip Thompson, and grandsons, Bryan and Andrew; son, John and his wife, Margie, and grandchildren, Hu, Lilli, Hart and Livi; and son, Joe and his wife, Jennifer, and grandchildren, Abby, McKensey and Joey; sister and brother-in-law, Caroldene Blackstock McEver and Robert McEver; sister, Barbara Blackstock Vandiver; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Gilbert Malinowski and Robert Malinowski; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Martha Gilbert Holmes and Offie Holmes; and several nieces and nephews.
The memorial services were held on Sunday, February 23, at the First Baptist Church of Jefferson. The service was officiated by Dr. Michael Helms and the Rev. Erica Cooper. Mr. Blackstock’s grandchildren were pallbearers. Members of the Adult III Sunday School Class were honorary pallbearers.
