A warrant is expected to be taken this afternoon for a South Jackson Elementary School teacher following allegations of abuse to a 5-year-old student.
Two children reportedly had bruises on the arm, according to Sheriff Janis Mangum.
Sheriff Mangum said Thursday morning that the student, as well as witnesses have been interviewed. The arrest warrant is expected to be taken this afternoon.
Jackson County School System superintendent April Howard said that the teacher has been with the school system since 2006.
“(She) has been an effective teacher with Jackson County Schools since 2006,” Howard said. “Two kindergarten students reported that (she) took them by the arm leaving a mark. She has been suspended with pay pending an investigation by both the school district and local law enforcement. We are absolutely committed to student safety and will ensure a through and complete investigation.”
