Spring sports scoreboard for March 5-11
•BOYS FOURTH, GIRLS FIFTH AT LOGANVILLE MEET: Both Jefferson track teams finished in the upper half of Saturday's Running with the Devils at Loganville in the first large meet of the year for the squads.
The boys finished fourth (with 78.5 points) on the strength of eight top-three finishes over the course of the afternoon.
Mason Hamrick won the pole vault (13-6), followed by teammate James Howard, who was second (12-06).
Dalton Hill had a second-place showing in the long jump (20-06) and a third-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (41:11).
In the relay events, Jefferson picked up a second-place finish in the 4 x 800 meters (8:47).
Rockdale County won the boys' meet with 180 points.
The Jefferson girls took fifth with 52 points, thanks to four top-three finishes.
Abby Carson (pole vault, 8-0), Jordan Harris (discus, 100-0) and the 4 x 800 meter team (11:07.05) all earned second-place finishes. Mackenzie Wells took third in the high jump (4-8).
Loganville won the girls' meet with 140 points.
•JEFFERSON (BOYS) 4, RABUN CO. 1: Jefferson got a pair of singles wins and swept doubles play to earn its second region win Wednesday at home against Rabun County. Gage Thompson won 6-0, 6-0 at no. 1 singles, and Jackson Howard won 6-4, 6-3 at no. 3 singles. In doubles play, Justin Harrison and Nathaniel Trawick won 7-6, 7-5 at no. 1 doubles, and Hal Jarrett and Caleb Tyler took the no. 2 doubles match 6-4, 6-3.
•JEFFERSON (GIRLS) 5, RABUN CO. 0: The Lady Dragons won convincingly Wednesday against visiting Rabun County, sweeping all singles and doubles action to earn region win no. 2. Cailyn Diianni won 6-0, 6-1 at no. 1 singles, Abi Muesse won 6-4, 6-3 at no. 2 singles and Chiara Pate was victorious at no. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Olivia Yates and Charlie Beatty won 6-1, 6-0 at the no. 1 doubles spot, and Rheagan Wessels and Kadi Perry won 6-0, 6-0 at no. 2 doubles.
