A Commerce couple faces charges of cruelty to children and other offenses after police found them passed out in a vehicle with the engine running and a small child in the back seat.
Police also charged the driver, Jennifer Lynn Daniel, 39, 62 Land Way, Commerce, with driving under the influence (DUI) of drugs and DUI-endangerment of a child. They charged Terry Fain Mann, 25, of the same address, with cruelty to children in the first degree.
A neighbor called 911 after hearing a child crying, finding the vehicle parked in the occupants’ driveway, the engine running, Daniel and Fain unresponsive and the child in the back seat.
The first officer to respond to the scene managed with some difficulty to awaken Daniel, who had an overturned beverage cup in her lap. When the officer asked why the car was running and the child was still in it, she allegedly explained that the child was watching a movie on the DVD player.
Officers observed that Daniel and Fain both appeared intoxicated. Both admitted to using prescription medications, including clonopin, Xanax and Lortab.
