The Commerce High School boys’ and girls’ tennis teams dropped their first two matches of the season last week against two Region 8-A opponents.
On Thursday, the Commerce boys fell to Tallulah Falls 1-4.
No. 1 singles player Jonathan Nichols was edged 5-8, while Riccki Orozzo fell 6-8 in No. 2 singles. No. 3 singles player Ethan Lefew fell 0-8 against his Indian opponent. The No. 1 doubles pair of Cody Weaver and Brevin Knox notched Commerce’s lone win (8-4), while the duo of Mitchell Patton and Dalton Flint fell 0-8 in No. 2 doubles competition.
The Commerce girls’ were ousted 2-3 by the Lady Indians.
Kaylee Partin won 8-2 in No. 1 singles, while Victoria Wood earned an 8-6 victory in No. 3 singles.
Madison Lumpkin fell 5-8 in No. 2 singles. The No. 1 doubles pair of Chandler Klugh and Savannah Barnett narrowly fell 11-13, while No. 2 doubles duo Alyssa Griffin and Vanessa Hernandez lost 0-8, securing a Lady Indian victory.
Both the Commerce boys and girls fell to Athens Christian 5-0 in their season opening contests on Tuesday, March 11.
The Tigers (0-2) travel to Woody Gap on Thursday to take on the Falcons.
