Spring sports round-up for March 12-18
•JACKSON CO. (GIRLS) 134, FRANKLIN CO. 153: Katie Fife shot a 42 to lead the Lady Panthers to a Tuesday victory on the road. Also scoring were Jordan Garner (46) and Cierra Gunnin (46). Hattie Sewell (47) and Haleigh McCullum also competed.
•JACKSON CO. (BOYS) 165, JEFFERSON 166: At Double Oaks Golf Course, the Panthers picked up their second intra-county win in as many days, with a one-stroke win over rival Jefferson Thursday to move to 4-0 on the year. York Delloyd led Jackson County with a 37, followed by Anthony Whobrey (41) and Ian McGaughey (41).
For the Dragons, Cooper Young shot a season-low 37 to tie Delloyd for low medalist honors. Daniel Kimmel added a round of 40, and Paul Dixon carded a 42. Eli Griffin and Charlie Jarrett both shot 47.
•JACKSON CO. (GIRLS) 92, JEFFERSON 92: The Lady Dragons and Lady Panthers tied last Thursday at Double Oaks Golf Course. Jefferson’s Madison Cornes shared low medalist honors with a 44, and Jill Pratt shot a 48. For the Lady Panthers, Cierra Gunnin was co-low medalist with a 44, while Hattie Sewell, Jordan Garner and Haleigh McCullum each shot rounds of 48. Since Jefferson hosted the event and used Class AA rules, only the top two scores were recorded. Jackson County would have won under Class AAA rules, which count the top three scores per team.
•JACKSON CO. (BOYS) 179, COMMERCE 212: Anthony Whobrey and Trey Evans led the Panthers with rounds of 42 and 44 respectively in rough conditions last Wednesday at Traditions of Braselton Golf Course.
•JACKSON CO. (GIRLS) 151, COMMERCE 169: Hattie Swell shot a 46, Cierra Gunnin added a 48 and Jordan Garner rounded out the scoring with a 54 as the Lady Panthers beat the Lady Tigers by 19 strokes last Wednesday at Traditions of Braselton Golf Course. Jordan Garner also competed, shooting a 54
•JACKSON CO. (BOYS) 1, HART CO. 0: The Panthers picked up a region road win Friday, thanks to a goal from Patrick Ventura off an assist from Trevor Logan.
•JACKSON CO. (GIRLS) 4, HART CO. 0: Katie Phillips scored two goals and Tiffany Savage and Madison Phillips added a goal each as the Lady Panthers posted a region road victory Friday. Jackson County's defense did not allow a shot on goal.
TRACK AND FIELD
•JACKSON CO. BOYS FINISH EIGHTH: Layson Giles finished second in the high jump (6-06) and Todd Woodring took second in the 400 meters (49.67) to help lead the Panthers to an eighth-place showing at Saturday's Baberitos Classic at Oconee County. Jackson County finished with 25 points.
•JACKSON CO. GIRLS PLACE 10TH: Destiny Gaudlock led the way for the Lady Panthers at Saturday's Baberitos Classic at Oconee County with fourth-place finishes in the 300-meter hurdles (56.68), high jump (5-00) and triple jump (32-03.75). Jackson County finished with 26 points.
•OCONEE CO. 5, JACKSON CO. 0 (BOYS): The Panthers were swept in singles and doubles play in a Thursday region loss at home.
•OCONEE CO. 4, JACKSON CO. (GIRLS) 1: The Lady Panthers were handed their first region loss Thursday with singles player Hannah Rodriguez picking up Jackson County's lone win against the Lady Warriors.
