THE JEFFERSON boys’ golf team turned in perhaps the program’s best performance in nearly three decades Tuesday at the Georgia Club, winning its first region title since 1985.
Cooper Young led Jefferson with a round of 82, followed by Charlie Jarrett (84), Paul Dixon (84) and Eli Griffin (94) as the Dragons shot a 344.
“This was a great team effort and coach Webster and I could not be more proud of the team and their performance today,” coach Tom Parker said.
Rabun County (347) finished second at region and Union County (372) and Social Circle (373) rounded out the top four.
Jefferson’s region title means it will by-pass the state sectionals and advance directly to the state tournament May 19 at Applewood Golf Course in Keysville near Augusta.
Lady Dragons finish fourth, advance to sectionals
Madison Cornes and Jill Pratt both shot rounds of 104 Tuesday at region in a fourth-place finish for the Jefferson girls.
This allows the Lady Dragons, who shot a 208, to advance to the state sectional tournament in Waycross at Laura Walker State Park on May 5.
“Although it was not their best effort, it was enough to keep the season alive,” coach Tom Parker said.
Social Circle won the region with a 192, followed by Rabun County (193) and Union County (201).
