NEITHER the Jefferson boys’ or girls’ tennis teams could overcome a tough foe from Region 6-AA in the first round of the Class AA state tournament.
The Lady Dragons lost 3-0 to Greater Atlanta Christian last Wednesday afternoon, and the Dragons were beaten 3-1.
“We got beat by a good team,” coach Mike Paul said. “I thought our kids tried hard and battled. Some days you’re just not as good as your opponent.”
On the girls’ side, Cailyn Diianni lost 6-1, 6-1 at no. 1 singles, Abi Muesse lost 6-1, 6-3 at no. 2 singles and Chiara Pate lost 6-0, 6-0 at no. 3 singles.
For the boys, Gage Thompson recorded the lone victory, winning 6-0, 6-0 at no. 1 singles. Jordan Tyler lost 7-5, 1-6, 0-6 at no. 2 singles, the team of Justin Harrison and Nathaniel Trawick lost 6-0, 6-2 at no. 1 doubles and the team of Hal Jarrett and Caleb Tyler lost 6-1, 6-0 at no. 2 doubles.
Paul said that GAC deserves a lot of credit.
“They’re a good team, and they come out of a tough region,” he said.
Paul added: “I’m really proud of our kids. They competed well — to a match — they fought hard.”
