Advance voting for the May 20 election in Banks County is under way.
Voting will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays through May 16 at the Banks County Registrars Office, located 226 Candler Street, Homer. Saturday voting will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 10.
The race for the District 1 seat on the Banks County Board of Commissioners, between incumbent Danny Maxwell and Gary Clark, will be voted on county wide. The candidate running for the District 1 seat is required to live in that district but the vote is open to all citizens in the county.
In the State Representative District 28 race, incumbent Dan Gasaway, Homer, will face Stacy Hall, Clarkesville.
Other candidates on the Republican ballot include:
•United States Senate: Paul Broun, Arthur Gardner, Phil Gingrey, Derrick Grayson, Karen Handel, Jack Kingston and David Perdue.
•Governor: incumbent Nathan Deal, John Barge and David Pennington III.
•State school superintendent: Mary Bacallao, Ashley Bell, Mike Buck, Sharyl Dawes, Allen Fort, Nancy Jester, T. Fitz Johnson, Kira Willis and Richard Woods.
•Public Service Commissioner: incumbent Lauren “Bubba” McDonald, Douglas Kidd and Charles “Craig” Lutz.
Candidates on the Democratic ballot include:
•United States Senate: Steen Miles, Michelle Nunn, Branko “Rad” Radulovacki and Todd Robinson.
•Secretary of State: Gerald Beckum and Doreen Carter.
•Commissioner of insurance: Keith Heard and Elizabeth “Liz” Johnson.
•State School Superintendent: Tarnisha Dent, Denise Freeman, Jurita Mays, Alisha Morgan, Rita Robinzine and Valarie Wilson.
Absentee ballots by mail are already being mailed out. For an application for a ballot, call the registrar’s office at 706-677-6260. Absentee ballots are also available by going to the website, www.sos.ga.gov.
