A man was arrested on a charge of hunting without permission when the property owner of some land on Jefferson River Road, Athens, caught the man on his land. The offender was wearing camouflage and carrying a pellet rifle with a scope.
He said he and another person were in the woods hunting turkey on a bet.
“It’s sad when a man can’t even go turkey hunting with a pellet rifle,” he said.
The man did not have a hunting license, but said that he was given permission by another resident on the property, although the deputy wrote in his report that he did not have written or verbal permission to hunt on the property.
He was taken to the Jackson County Jail and charged with hunting without a big-game license and hunting without a license.
