Madison County commissioners approved the qualifying fee April 28 for those seeking to fill the tax commissioner’s seat later this year at $1,491.65.
Long-time tax commissioner Louise Watson recently announced her retirement, effective May 31. She has served 25 years in the post and is in her sixth term, which will expire at the end of 2016.
A special, non-partisan election for the tax commissioner’s seat will be held during this year’s general election on Nov. 4. Qualifying for the tax commissioner’s position has tentatively been set for Aug. 4-6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the county registrar’s office.
Lamar Dalton announced his candidacy for the post this week.
