Jackson County Comprehensive High School has a new principal.
Pete Jones was named Monday night by the board of education to replace retiring Scott Smith in the principal’s position at JCCHS. Jones is currently an assistant principal at Collins Hill High School in Gwinnett County.
The board also accepted the resignation of Heidi Hill, principal at East Jackson Middle School, who announced earlier that she was taking the job of middle school principal in the Jefferson City School System. No replacement has yet been named for the EJMS principal’s position.
Perhaps the most difficult move for the board Monday night was the approval of 39 resignations and terminations as the system attempts to get its finances in better shape.
The reduction-in-force (RIF) was announced earlier as a cost-cutting measure by the board. Many of the resignations approved Monday night were due to the RIF.

Because of the RIF, a number of teachers were also transferred for the next school year. Some 22 teachers were moved around in the system. Those changes are: Kelly Banks to WJMS; Taylor Brown to JCCHS; Alan Bunn, to split between EJCHS and JCCHS; Chuck Butler, to JCCHS; Robert Camp, to EJCHS; Joyce Cook, to GSES; Carmen Daniel, to WJMS; Kelly Davidson to NJES; William Dodd, to WJMS; Tracy Eye, to MES; Angie Furney, to WJPS; Andrew Garner, to EJMS; Stacey Hanley to EJES; Blaine Jenkins to split EJCHS/JCCHS; Kathy Jones to WJMS; Charles Langley to MES; Debbie Mintz to split JCCHS/EJCHS; Parrish Myers, to WJMS; Stephanie Orrill to MES; Shawanna Stevens to NJES; Andrera Waldrip to NJES; and Josh Whitworth to EJCHS.
The BOE also hired two custodians and accepted the retirement of Deborah Dobson from MES.
