CARLTON – Briar James Newsome, 15, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014.
He was born in Athens on January 29, 1999, the son of Terry and Nita Carney Newsome. He was a ninth grade student at Oglethorpe County High School and attended Living Waters Holiness Church in Colbert. He loved hunting and fishing with his dad, as well as football and wrestling. He was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Geneva Blum, Earl and Katie Hill, and James Carney.
Survivors in addition to his parents include sisters, Brittany, Stephanie and Allison; grandparents, Johnny and Diane Carney, Danielsville, Barbara King, Carlton, and Jerry King, Elberton; great-grandparents, Dorothy Carney and William Blum; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services celebrating his life were held Monday, May 26, in the Elberton First Baptist Church with the Revs. Bobby Baston and Janice Loggins officiating. Interment was in Glade Cemetery with Hunter Melton, Ian Bates, Dillion Nation, Duston Todd, Trevor Cruce, J.D. Rogers, Andrew Spooner, and Zack Bates honored as pallbearers.
