The Jackson County Board of Commissioners took action last week to move forward with funding several recreation projects with special purpose local option sales tax revenue.
Recreation director Rick Sanders outlined at an earlier meeting the $525,000 in projects to be funded this year, which include:
•new parks and recreation office, $300,000.
•Center Park, phase one, $150,000.
•maintenance equipment, $25,000.
•Lamar Murphy Park backstop/fencing replacement, $30,000.
•Kings Bridge fitness track, $20,000.
The BOC also approved projects for 2015, including:
•Pat Bell Conference Center expansion and renovation, $100,000.
•maintenance equipment, $20,000.
Projects on the list for 2016 are:
•Maintenance equipment, $25,000.
•West Jackson Middle School multi-purpose field, lighting of football and softball field and paved track around field and seating, $850,000.
Projects on the list for 2017 are:
•Maintenance equipment, $30,000.
Additional projects that are on the list pending funding from SPLOST include: Hurricane Shoals Park restroom addition and Lamar Murphy Park fencing.
