All lanes of State Route 347 are closed from Spout Springs Road to SR 211 in Braselton due to a gas main break at about 10:15 this morning, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
A six-inch gas main running under SR 347 was apparently ruptured this morning causing gas to spewing up through the roadway. The gas leak has already caused pavement damage so the roadway will not be able to open once the gas is turned off.
Gas is also spewing up through the center lane of SR 347 east at Deaton Creek Parkway.
GDOT is asking motorists to slow down and be patient as they work to clear the area.
