Commerce, it appears, will soon have a taxi service.
Pierre N. Mondesir, who has operated a taxi service in Winder, has filed an application for a license to operate Winder Speedy Taxi from 41 State Street.
The Commerce City Council briefly discussed the application at its “work session” meeting Monday night.
City Clerk Sandra Haggard reported that Mondesir has three insured and inspected vehicles and that in two years of operation in Winder, the company has generated no complaints to City Hall or to the police department.
“He cannot cruise for customers,” Haggard said. “It is on-call only.”
Officials said Mondesir has also made arrangements to park idle taxis at a location off State Street.
Under the city’s charter, the city council must approve by vote a license for a taxi company. The matter will be on the agenda for the council’s regular meeting Monday, July 21, at 6 p.m. in the Commerce Room of the Commerce Civic Center.
