The Lula City Council will be voting on Monday, July 21, on a request from Tony McQuire to rezone approximately 17.1 acres at Mountain View/Hwy. 365 from Highway Business to Light Industrial.
The request was discussed at a work session of the city council on Monday night.
At a meeting held earlier this year, McQuire stated he proposes to operate a truck terminal with 16 trucks and 30 trailers with operating hours of 8 a.m. through 5 p.m. McQuire currently operates a trucking business in Gainesville.
City staff is recommending several conditions, including limiting outdoor storage and requiring vegetative buffering to block the view from adjoining property owners.
Before voting on the request, a public hearing will be held at, 5:30 p.m. on Mondayt to receive public input and comments.
In other business at the Monday night work session:
•it was reported that property owner Jeff Huber is requesting removal or reduction of a fee assessed for replacement of a water meter at his residence. According to City Manager Dennis Bergin, the meter has been compromised, making the replacement necessary.
•Mayor Milton Turner reported Hall County has decided to delay placement of the questions of SPLOST seven on the November ballot, instead opting to wait until 2015.
•Mayor Turner reported a contract with Hall County to provide prisoner labor has been completed and signed.
•Bergin reported Banks County has requested the city provide emergency water services. Bergin noted the city has an emergency agreement with Banks County, but the council will need to consider placing a cap on the amount of water provided.
•Bergin reported bids for Phase III of the city streetscape project have been received. Once the bids have been opened, evaluated and validated, Bergin will bring back a recommendation for council consideration at the August meeting.
