School is back in session this week for the Jackson County School System.
Open houses are scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 6, at the respective schools on the east and west side of the county.
East Side Community
Elementary — Wednesday, Aug. 6 from 4-6 p.m.
Middle — Wednesday, Aug. 6 from 5-7 p.m.
High — Orientations were held July 30 and Aug. 1.
West Side Community
Elementary — Wednesday, Aug. 6 from 3-6 p.m.
Middle —Wednesday, Aug. 6, 4-7 p.m.
High — Wednesday, Aug. 6, 5-8 p.m.
There will be several new leaders in the schools and district offices, including:
•Jason Wester, Director of Human Resources and Student Support Services
•Tiffany Barnett, principal, East Jackson Middle School
•Pete Jones, principal, Jackson County Comprehensive High School
•Joe Cobb, principal, West Jackson Middle School
•Tim Nichols, assistant principal, East Jackson Middle School
The high schools are transitioning from a block schedule back to a seven-period day.
The following is a list of renovations that took place over the summer:
•all schools are now equipped with security mechanisms which include front door intercom and camera with mag lock systems which require permissive access. Parents will receive communication the first week of school to understand the procedural changes to ensure children and staff safety at all of the JCSS campuses.
•JCCHS and North Jackson Elementary School had restroom renovations completed.
•North Jackson Elementary School, JCCHS and EJMS had some flooring upgrades completed.
•a 25-classroom addition began at West Jackson Intermediate School.
•a new recreation/green space/playground is complete at WJIS.
