Summer ends this week for the Jackson County School System. Teachers began pre-planning with full days starting Monday, Aug. 4, to prepare for their students who start back Friday, Aug. 8.
There are school performance celebrations planned for Thursday, Aug. 7, at 6 p.m. at the Jackson County Comprehensive High School auditorium; and Monday, Aug. 11, at 6 p.m. at the East Jackson Comprehensive High School auditorium. Both of these sessions will be followed by a community meeting and feedback session related to school configurations and planning.
A district-wide community meeting will be held at East Jackson Comprehensive High School on Monday, Aug. 25, at 6 p.m.
System leaders expect approximately 7,425 students this year, up from the reported 7,200 in 2013. Of those, 220 will be new pre-K students.
JCSS ended 2013-14 with 7,295 students. This year, there will be 4,005 students in schools on the west side and 3,418 students on the east side.
