David Cochran will succeed Clarence Sullens as chief of the Maysville Police Department. The Maysville City Council elected Cochran to fill the position on Monday, Aug. 11.
Cochran began his career in law enforcement in 1984 at the Banks County Sheriff’s Office. He began working for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in 1994. He served as chief deputy in both departments.
Currently, Cochran serves as a criminal investigator for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
He anticipates taking on the chief’s role within the next two to three weeks. Cochran, who lives in Maysville, says he applied for the position to serve his community.
“I’d like to bring back my service to the community that I live in,” said Cochran.
The Maysville City Council began interviewing the 18 applicants for the position last month.
