Things quickly went from bad to worse in East Jackson's home-opener against Hebron Christian Academy on Friday.
The Eagle defense got off to a strong start after a couple of Michael Seagraves sacks stopped the Lion's on their first drive.
Taylor Murphy and Cody Hardwick led East Jackson's offense down the field on their opening drive, but the Eagles misfortunes started when Hardwick was picked off in the red zone. Hebron returned the interception for a touchdown to go up 7-0 in the first quarter.
East Jackson's mistakes continued on the following drive after a miscue on an option pitch led to an Eagle fumble. Hebron capitalized on good field position an increased its lead to 14-0 as the first quarter expired.
The Eagles next drive ended in a fumble and translated into seven more points for the Lions.
The Eagle offense once again found themselves in the red zone as time ticked away in the first half, but the misfortune snowballed as a blocked field goal attempt was picked up and returned for a Hebron touchdown.
The Eagles finally got on the board in the third quarter on a Murphy rushing touchdown, but it was too little, too late as a 35-point deficit was too much to overcome.
Murphy scored again late in the fourth quarter to put the final score at 35-15, Hebron Christian.
The Eagles will look to limit mistakes next week when they host Lakeview Academy next week.
