City of Auburn officials continue to review options for moving forward without a parks and leisure department.
At a workshop held Thursday, Aug. 21, the council was presented a recommendation from public works director David Hawthorne for a job description and title that would consolidate duties of the parks and leisure director with those of the public works assistant, bringing the position under direction of the public works department.
The need for such action came about after the resignation of Parks and Leisure director Rafael Avalos in June.
City Attorney Jack Wilson expressed concern for the proposed title for the position — Public Works Administrative Assistant/Parks and Leisure Services Coordinator.
“I would suggest it be modified so that it is one title instead of two, just so that it is clear that it is one job,” said Wilson. “Rather than have a dual title, have one title and all job duties listed under that title.”
