BEHIND a strong serving night, the Jefferson volleyball team ran its winning streak to four matches with home victories over area foes Morgan County and Hart County Thursday.
The Dragons (10-6, 3-1) beat Morgan County in three sets, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, and took care of Hart County in two, 25-12, 25-17.
“We served the heck out of the ball today; I don’t know how many aces we had as a team,” said coach Mike Paul. “We really served well today and we hit the ball well today. But you can’t do that without good passing.”
Jefferson combined for 23 aces in the two matches and 68 service points on the night.
In the win over Morgan County, Grace Williamson, Abby Wood and Lindsey Nilsen each tallied seven kills, while Williamson and Wood each recorded three aces. Other statistical leaders were Madison Corbett (11 assists), Paige Watson (nine assists) and Olivia Przybysz (11 digs).
“Morgan County was a very good team,” Paul said. “We beat, I thought, a good team in three (sets). They talk about quality wins. I thought that was a quality win for our program this year.”
Bre Arbanas, Daniella Franco and Wood each picked up four kills in the win over Hart County, while Williamson recorded eight aces and a kill. Corbett finished with 10 assists against the Bulldogs while Watson had five.
“I just think we kind of overwhelmed them a little bit," Paul said of the victory over Hart County.
With a 3-1 record in the area, Jefferson stands in third place in the area standings behind Oconee County and Jackson County, which are both 2-0. The Dragons face both those teams Sept. 11.
“I’m pleased with where we are right now,” Paul said.
