•Notes: AHS hopes to start the 2014 season on the right foot with a season-opening road victory. Woodland High School, located in Henry County, is a relatively new program, fiedling a football team for the first time in 2007. Prior to 2014, Scott Schmidt was the team’s head coach with a high mark of 7-4 in 2009. Steve Davenport saw his team record a win in last week’s season opener. Davenport is the former head coach at Savannah State. The Wolfpack finished 2-8 the last three seasons with a 3-7 mark in 2010. AHS saw some positive things in its scrimmage against Monroe Area Aug. 15 and hopes to begin making the return to being a playoff contender. This will be the lone non-region game for the Wildcats who will then embark on a nine-game slate inside Region 8-AAAAA.
•They Said It: AHS offensive coordinator Joel Miller: “They have an advantage because they played last Friday. Their first game jitters are gone. Hopefully our two scrimmages have prepared us the way we hoped and we can limit our first game mistakes.”
Prediction: AHS 14, Woodland 13
