The Arcade City Council denied a business license request for a bar at its monthly meeting on Monday.
Daniel Samples filed the request to operate a bar at 2888 Athens Highway. Samples said he planned to open a bar in the building that once housed Ronny’s Place.
The bar would be open Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays for parties only and Thursdays and Fridays from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. and Saturdays from 5 p.m. to 12 p.m.
Arcade City Clerk Deborah Mockus said there were some issues with the information that came back on Samples’ criminal background check. Mockus would not discuss the specifics of this information at the advice of the city’s attorney.
Council member Cindy Bone said, “I hate to see a bar right there.” Bone said she would like to see a business that would help the city. “I am not comfortable with opening another bar in the city,” Bone added.
